Rep. Pelosi Issues Statement on Social Security & Medicare Trustees Report

WASHINGTON, June 5 -- House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-California, issued the following statement after the trustees of the Social Security and Medicare released a report showing that Medicare will become insolvent by 2026 and Social Security will be depleted by 2034:
"The staggering costs in the lives of seniors from the Republicans' brazen corporate and special interest agenda become clearer every day. The GOP tax scam's massive, unpaid-for giveaways to the wealthiest 1 percent and big corporations have gravely undermined the future of Medicare and Social Security, and now Republicans want America's seniors to pay the bill.
"President Trump promised to defend the promise of Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security, yet he has fought to slash trillions from these pillars of health and security in his budget. His most recent plan to move seniors' prescriptions from Part B to Part D will further endanger these vital initiatives, while also skyrocketing out-of-pocket costs for some of the sickest people on Medicare.
"Social Security and Medicare are a guarantee that America's seniors have earned with a lifetime of hard work. Democrats will continue to fight to protect the health and financial security of America's families, and to give them A Better Deal to Lower the Cost of Prescription Drugs, calling for tough new enforcement of drug price gouging, allowing Medicare Part D to negotiate drug prices, and transparency of excessive drug price increases."
