Rep. Lee Issues Statement to Callon Senate to Uplift Workers in Celebration of Labor Day

WASHINGTON, Aug. 30 -- Rep. Barbara Lee, D-California, issued the following statement in observance of Labor Day:
"As we celebrate Labor Day, we must remind the U.S. Senate to do their job and uplift working people by passing the House bills for fair pay and affordable health care.
"American families are working harder than ever to put food on the table, pay rent and mortgages, afford childcare, and save for a secure retirement. Yet wages for middle and low-income workers, especially in communities of color, remain stagnant or - in some cases - have declined.
"House Democrats are committed to addressing these pressing issues, but Mitch McConnell and the Trump Administration continue to block our efforts and sit on critical legislation that would raise the minimum wage to $15 a hour, lower healthcare costs and help close the gender pay gap.
"On Labor Day, we celebrate the organizers and workers who have fought for a living wage, workers' rights and protections, and a fair playing field for working families. I stand with our union brothers and sisters as we continue that fight for prosperity and economic justice for all.
