HARTFORD, Connecticut, July 9 -- Rep. John B. Larson, D-Connecticut, issued the following news release:
Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) condemned the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to uphold the Trump Administration's rule that allows employers to refuse to cover their employees' birth control under their company health insurance plan. Larson signed onto the amicus brief opposing the rule and will cosponsor legislation to repeal the Administration's rules that expand the exemption to the Affordable Care Act's (ACA) birth-control benefit.
"Today's decision is a step backwards in protecting reproductive rights. An employer should not have the ability to interfere with Americans' personal health care decisions.
"I'm proud that Connecticut has a long history of requiring insurance companies to cover contraceptives and support Governor Lamont in his efforts. We now must ensure all Americans have the same protections. I will be joining my colleagues in introducing legislation that will repeal these harmful rules," said Larson.
