WASHINGTON, May 23 -- House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer, D-Maryland, issued the following statement on the Congressional Budget Office's report that three million more Americans will lose health coverage due to the Affordable Care Act:
"Unable to repeal the Affordable Care Act and pass their dangerous TrumpCare law, President Trump and Republicans in Congress have instead worked to sabotage our nation's health care system. Now, thanks to this report by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO), the American people can see just how devastating that sabotage has been. In the CBO's estimation, premiums in the individual market will go up an average of 15%, and 3 million Americans will lose their coverage next year. Much of the premium increase is directly attributable to the repeal of the individual mandate in Republicans' tax law.
"The American people will not be fooled; they can see Republicans' sabotage of our health care system for what it is. Americans do not support Republican attempts to dismantle the health care reforms that protect patients from discrimination, lower out-of-pocket costs, improve quality of care, and expand access to affordable coverage. I call on Republicans to stop recklessly sabotaging the ACA, which undermines insurance markets and harms consumers, and instead work with us to strengthen the law."
