Rep. Guthrie Votes to Begin Obamacare Overhaul

WASHINGTON, Jan. 13 -- Rep. Brett Guthrie, R-Ky (2nd CD), issued the following news release:

Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02), vice chairman of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce's Health Subcommittee, today released the following statement after voting for the Senate Budget resolution, which includes instructions for Congress to repeal Obamacare:

"The American people have sent a clear message: Obamacare is not working for them and their families. Those who have purchased care through an Obamacare exchange have few options. Premiums and deductibles have risen across the board. Millions have lost their insurance plans after being told that they could keep the plans that they liked. This system is unsustainable.

"Today, the House voted to begin the process to repeal Obamacare. Today's vote does not mean that those who have purchased care through the exchanges will automatically lose it, nor does it mean that we will go back to the way things were. Instead, today's vote allows us to begin the process of transitioning to a sustainable health care system with more choices and lower costs.

"We need patient-centered health care solutions, not a broken, government-centered health care mess. As vice chairman of the Health Subcommittee, I look forward to working with my colleagues to develop these solutions so that Kentuckians have access to affordable, quality health care."

S.Con.Res.3, the FY2017 Budget Resolution used to begin the repeal process, was passed by a majority of the House today after already clearing the Senate. It offers a legislative vehicle for Congress to begin repealing parts of the failed Obama health law and replacing it with commonsense, patient-centered policy. Passage of the resolution will not cause consumers to lose their 2017 health care coverage.
