WASHINGTON, Dec. 7 -- Rep. Tony Cardenas, D-California, issued the following statement after a meeting with the Federal Emergency Management Agency Administrator William B. "Brock" Long and requested an update regarding federal resources for the Southern California fires, including the Creek Fire and followed up on his letter to Long and President Trump:
"I appreciate Administrator Long coming to Congress so we could get updates on this crucial issue face-to-face. I asked a series of questions regarding the federal aid process, what resources are available, and how my office can best help California and Los Angeles access these resources.
"I also urged him to keep my office and my fellow Los Angeles Members of Congress updated in real time.
"Administrator Long was receptive and understanding of the magnitude of this crisis, and said the FEMA Regional Director is in Southern California, coordinating closely with CalFire, and that four Fire Management Assistance Grant Programs (FMAGs) have been authorized. A challenge of this size can only be conquered if we work together."
Congressman Cardenas has been in constant contact with officials in Southern California and federal agencies in order to make sure residents are aware of the dangers of the Creek Fire, have the ability to evacuate safely, and that first responders have all the resources they need.
