REGIONAL REPORT: Historic Aeolian Hill Farm on market

Times & Democrat (Orangeburg, SC)

Oct. 6--Historic Aeolian Hill Farm on market

ST. MATTHEWS -- Aeolian Hill Farm is on the market for $1.625 million.

The sprawling residence sits on more than 210 acres and is located at 295 Old Number Six Highway in St. Matthews.

Aeolian Hill Farm is a residence, successful wedding venue, vacation destination, hunting retreat and farmland. The property is in Calhoun County, 1.8 miles from downtown St. Matthews. The two-story, 5,200 square-foot antebellum estate features five bedrooms and four bathrooms.

Steeped in historical and agricultural significance, the land has been used by Clemson University since 1872 for experimental cotton production (currently leased), and Aeolian Hill Farm is the site of the first harvestable soybean developed by John E. Wannamaker II.

The property is listed by Patrick O'Connor, an affiliated sales associate with Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage's Lexington/Lake Murray office.

Molina to offer Exchange

NORTH CHARLESTON -- Molina Healthcare of South Carolina announced that the company will add Health Insurance Marketplace (also known as Exchange) and Medicare Dual Special Needs Plans to its offerings for the first time in 2020. Molina Healthcare of South Carolina already serves members through Medicaid and Medicare-Medicaid (Duals) plans across the state.

"We are excited for the opportunity to provide South Carolina residents with additional health care options," said Dora Wilson, president of Molina Healthcare of South Carolina. "Our Marketplace and DSNP plans are a natural extension of the coverage we currently offer our Medicaid and Duals members. We look forward to providing more members with high-quality and affordable health care coverage through these new plans."

Molina's Marketplace footprint in South Carolina will span 20 counties including Aiken, Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Charleston, Calhoun, Clarendon, Colleton, Dillon, Edgefield, Fairfield, Kershaw, Lee, Lexington, Marlboro, Marion, McCormick, Orangeburg, Saluda and Williamsburg counties.

The open enrollment period for Marketplace in South Carolina begins Nov. 1 and runs through Dec. 15 for a membership effective date of Jan. 1, 2020.

Grant to support export assistance

COLUMBIA -- The S.C. Department of Commerce has been awarded a State Trade Expansion Program (STEP) grant from the U.S. Small Business Administration for the eighth year. The program is designed to support and encourage small business export success. The state was awarded its full requested amount of $360,400.

"This is now nine consecutive years the Palmetto State has had a record year in total export sales. We understand that tremendous opportunities exist for our companies overseas," Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt said. "And, we are grateful to the U.S. Small Business Administration for once again awarding our great state with this grant, which will allow us to support South Carolina businesses seeking to expand their reach to new markets around the globe."

An essential component of the state's economic development efforts, S.C. Commerce continues to expand its export initiatives. In 2014, in an effort to build on the success of its own STEP program, the agency created South Carolina Opportunities for Promoting Exports, or SCOPE. Over the last seven years, these two programs have generated more than $123 million in export sales, helping South Carolina companies sell products to 63 countries around the world.

"More than 84% of businesses that export in South Carolina are small businesses, and they account for 11.2% of South Carolina's exports," said Gregg White, district director for the SBA South Carolina District Office.

"The S.C. Department of Commerce has been very successful in using the SBA STEP Grant to support small businesses that wish to tap into foreign markets. We are excited to see more successful small business exporters, like Boyd Cycling, come from this program."
