Preliminary Flood Map for Newton County, Texas, Ready for Public View

DENTON, Texas, April 4 -- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency issued the following news release:

New preliminary flood maps for Newton County are ready for review.

Residents are encouraged to examine these maps to decide whether they need to buy flood insurance. Additionally, residents and community leaders can make informed decisions about building and development.

A team consisting of Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and state and local officials cooperated to produce them.

"We've worked with our state and local partners to bring this critical information to the area. We hope that everyone reviews the maps to understand the flood risks involved," said FEMA Region 6 Administrator Tony Robinson. "It is important for the community to be a participant in the flood mapping process."
