Dec. 12--Five deserving people received cars thanks to the annual Mike's Auto Body's Benevolence Program in Antioch on Wednesday. Program coordinator Sal Contreras hosted the event which has been held for the past 19 years. The all-volunteer program fixes up cars and gives them to people and families in need. Over the years the program has given away eighty-eight vehicles.
Additional sponsors included Mike Stoiber, State Farm Insurance agent; Tom Donahue, Liberty Mutual/Safeco Insurance claims manager; Jason Willett, CSAA Insurance Group public relations consultant; and Kelly Hunt, Enterprise Rent-A-Car's Regional vice president.
The car recipients were also gifted bicycles for their children, thanks to a donation from Big O Tires.
The event featured the presentation of the flag by the Mt. Diablo JROTC Color Guard, "America the Beautiful" was played by Kristopher Muse on the bagpipes, and the national anthem was performed by the Antioch High School Band. Santa Claus arrived by fire truck thanks to the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.
