The financing follows three years in which Oxbridge built the data systems, analytics and software needed to price, guarantee and administer healthcare by episode of care. Four reinsurers offer stop-loss coverage on Oxbridge plans, giving self-funded employers risk protection.

What the data shows
Oxbridge’s approach starts with a measurement most health plans never make: how much it costs different care groups to treat clinically similar patients for the same condition or procedure. The answer is that costs vary by several-fold within the same market, and the higher-cost groups do not deliver consistently better quality. In Oxbridge’s analysis of 15 million risk-adjusted commercial episodes across four states, most of that gap in total cost came from how much care was delivered, even when not needed clinically, not from the price of each service.
Employers and their employees are routinely paying far more than necessary for the same health outcomes, with no way to know their cost exposure before treatment begins. Oxbridge architects health benefits to close that gap.
How Episode Advantage Plans work
Oxbridge’s plans are designed to cost employers 10% to 25% less than a comparable PPO or HMO plan with the same benefits.
For each covered episode, such as a knee replacement or cataract surgery, or a condition such as annual diabetes care, members see guaranteed prices from local care groups before treatment. The employer sets a coverage allowance, so members know in advance what the plan will pay and what, if anything, they will owe. Members access the same doctors and hospitals they use in their plan today. Those patients who choose efficient care groups pay less, and the plan stops paying a premium price for care that is not demonstrably better.
“Employers have been told the only ways to control healthcare costs are to narrow networks, restrict benefits, or shift more of the bill to employees,” said

“Episode Advantage Inside” for health plans and administrators
Oxbridge also offers Episode Advantage Inside, which allows health plans and third-party administrators to add Oxbridge’s episode pricing and guaranteed-price capabilities to their existing benefit plans. The program gives these organizations a way to offer price transparency and sustainably lower costs without replacing the plans their clients already use.
