LONDON, England, Nov. 15 -- Norton Rose Fulbright, a law firm, issued the following news release:
Mina Matin (New York) represented global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright as a member of a panel that discussed opportunities that Bermuda offers InsurTech companies at a forum in Miami last month.
The panel's discussion was called "InsurTech: A New Frontier" and was part of the Bermuda Business Development Agency's executive forum on October 18.
Matin spoke about emerging technologies in the insurance industry, including IoT and smart devices that extrapolate data by sensory technologies, artificial intelligence, blockchain and smart contract technologies. "These emerging technologies," she told the audience, "are deployed for a variety of the purposes, including pricing insurance risks, predicting future and emerging risks and as a means of streamlining underwriting and claims handling processes."
She also explained how Bermuda's historical background as a leading insurance/reinsurance capital and its appetite for innovation makes it an ideal jurisdiction to cultivate innovative Insurtech technologies.
Other InsurTech leaders on the same panel were Risk Cooperative chief executive Dante Disparte; Craig Swan, managing director of insurance supervision at the Bermuda Monetary Authority; Drum G chief operating officer Stafford Lowe; and KPMG partner Thomas Kelly, who moderated the discussion.
