NimbleFins Unveils In-Depth Guide on Navigating UK Car Insurance Market
Many
"In the current economic environment and faced with rising car insurance costs, car owners are keen to reduce the cost of car insurance any way they can," said Erin Yurday, the CEO and co-founder of NimbleFins. "As a result, many car insurance companies have started offering comprehensive coverage with fewer features at discounted premiums. The big providers' cheapest car insurance policies may skip out on features like key or belongings cover but still provide comprehensive car insurance at a reduced price."
The team at NimbleFins has found the following big car insurance providers offer a cheaper tier of cover, sometime through an alternative brand or a telematics plan:
- Admiral (e.g. 'LittleBox' telematics)
- LV= (e.g. the 'flow' brand)
- Churchill (e.g. 'Churchill Essentials')
-
- Aviva (e.g. online car insurance brand 'QuoteMeHappy')
Motorists wanting to find their cheapest car insurance quotes can access a search engine on the NimbleFins website, where they fill in one online form to get quick quotes for cheap car insurance from up to 100 providers.
What may be missing from the cheapest car insurance quotes
To remain in the black and still offer cheap car insurance quotes, a provider will have to save money somewhere. When asked about what might be missing from the cheapest car insurance policies, Erin says, "First, consumers should check to see if they will have access to telephone customer service going forward, or if customer service enquiries are handled online only. Some people are comfortable with online customer service, but it can make life more difficult for others.
"Second, motorists should check the coverage features of the policy to see what is not included. For example, Churchill's cheapest car insurance tier, called 'Essentials,' doesn't include any cover for belongings or keys, has reduced cover for stereos and alternative transport after an accident, and doesn't include new car replacement. In contrast, their standard comprehensive cover and their 'Plus' tier do include these features.
"Third, many cheap car insurance deals are for policies with a telematics system that tracks the way a motorist drives, specifically looking at speed, acceleration, braking and cornering. Quotes might be cheaper when an insurer has access to this data, but not all motorists are happy to have a telematics policy.
"Fourth," Erin continues, "cheap car insurance quotes might reflect a higher excess. The excess is the amount the motorist pays towards a claim, so it's important that drivers are aware of the excess and would be able to pay it in the event of a claim."
