New Administrative Building Opens in Prince George’s County

Targeted News Service (Press Releases)

ROCKVILLE, Maryland, April 4 -- Kaiser Permanente issued the following news release:

- The 176,000-square-foot administrative building in New Carrollton, Maryland, houses approximately 850 employees, including a large team of information technology professionals.

Kaiser Permanente celebrated the grand opening today for a new 176,000-square-foot administrative building in the New Carrollton Transit Center in Prince George's County. Approximately 850 Kaiser Permanente employees will work in the new facility, including a large information technology team.

The new site marks a major investment by Kaiser Permanente in the New Carrollton Transit Center -- a vibrant, up-and-coming mixed-use development that includes a wide range of retail and residential options, as well as a community park.

Earlier this month, Maryland Governor Larry Hogan, Lt. Governor Boyd Rutherford and Prince George's County Executive Angela Alsobrooks visited the new facility for a roundtable discussion on Maryland's Opportunity Zones. Governor Hogan announced an Opportunity Plan in January to help the state capitalize on federal Opportunity Zone funding.

Kaiser Permanente is the area's largest integrated health care system, and its membership continues to grow. The information technology team is an important part of Kaiser Permanente's robust growth in the region because it provides the backbone for telehealth services that enable members communicate with their physicians via secure email and video.

"Kaiser Permanente is committed to improving the health of the communities where our members and employees live and work," said Kim Horn, regional president of Kaiser Permanente. "I am confident employees will love working in this new space, and I am proud that we are growing our presence in Prince George's County, where we provide care to more than 140,000 residents through our integrated health system."

The administrative building is home to a state-of-the-art simulation center, which Kaiser Permanente's health care providers, as well as residency program participants, will use to gain experience providing innovative treatments to patients. Simulation centers offer many training advantages that improve patient safety and reduce health care costs. Kaiser Permanente worked with Urban Atlantic, developer and owner; Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, land owner; Bostonia, lender; Gensler, architecture and interiors; Soltesz, civil engineer; and Clark Construction, contractor; to build this state-of-the-art facility.

Many local elected officials were on site to celebrate the grand opening. Congressman Anthony Brown, Prince George's County Executive Angela Alsobrooks, Prince George's County Council Chairman Todd Turner and Prince George's County Council Member Daiella Glaros all shared their excitement about Kaiser Permanente's expanded presence in the county. Paul Wiedefeld, general manager and chief executive officer of WMATA, also gave remarks about the new facility and its convenient access to Metro.

The facility, located in the New Carrollton Transit Center in Hyattsville, offers easy Metro access, walkable surroundings, a modern fitness center, on-site dining options, a full conference center and environmentally friendly design. Kaiser Permanente employees benefit from a state-of-the-art workspace that supports employee health, well-being, safety, innovation, collaboration and productivity.

Kaiser Permanente is committed to creating a healthy Prince George's County for all residents.

In 2020, Kaiser Permanente will continue to grow its presence in Prince George's County by opening a new state-of-the-art medical center in Bowie. This new 45,558square-foot medical center will provide primary care, behavioral health, optometry, pharmacy, laboratory and imaging services. This will be Kaiser Permanente's fifth medical center in Prince George's County.

The investment in a healthier Prince George's County is not new. Since 2013, Kaiser Permanente has awarded more than $2.6 million in grants, donations and sponsorships to increase access to care, educational and economic opportunities, and access to healthy fresh foods and physical activity in Prince George's County. Kaiser Permanente has also invested more than $37.7 million to increase access to our quality health care for underinsured individuals residing in Prince George's County.

Kaiser Permanente has been recognized nationally and regionally as one of the top health systems for excellence in patient care outcomes. Out of more than 1,000 health plans evaluated this year, Kaiser Permanente's Private and Medicare plans in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia all received the highest possible rating (5 out of 5) from the National Committee for Quality Assurance. The organization's Medicaid plans in Maryland and Virginia received the highest rating as well. According to the NCQA's Health Insurance Plan Ratings 2018-19 national report, Kaiser Permanente's health system in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia is among the top 1 percent of plans in the nation as evaluated by NCQA's rigorous review process.
