NARAL Pro-Choice America Endorses Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro for Re-Election

NARAL Pro-Choice America announced its endorsement of Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro in his campaign for re-election.

"Josh Shapiro has been a steadfast champion for Pennsylvanian women and families and we are proud to endorse him," said Ilyse Hogue, President of NARAL Pro-Choice America. "In the face of relentless attacks on reproductive freedom Josh will continue to protect Roe v. Wade and safeguard Pennsylvanians' freedom to make their own decisions about pregnancy without interference from politicians. We need champions like him in office, now more than ever."

"Defending reproductive rights against repeated attacks from the Trump Administration is a top priority for me as Pennsylvania's Attorney General and I am honored to have NARAL's support," said Attorney General Josh Shapiro. "From suing to protect Title X to winning a nationwide injunction to protect access to no-cost contraception to fighting abortion bans across the country in court, I'm committed to this fight and I'll never back down from protecting a woman's right to access quality, safe reproductive health care."

Attorney General Shapiro has been a steadfast champion for reproductive freedom and an unwavering ally to women and families during his tenure in elected office. He has twice secured national injunctions protecting women's access to no-cost contraception as required by the Affordable Care Act, and has been active in joining state coalitions to block abortion bans across the country, including in Arkansas, Louisiana, and Indiana, where access to reproductive healthcare is increasingly in peril.

Shapiro serves on the Executive Committee of the Democratic Attorneys General Association (DAGA). In November 2019, DAGA announced the committee will only endorse candidates who publicly commit to protecting reproductive rights including access to abortion. The candidate requirement is the first-of-its-kind for any Democratic campaign committee, reinforcing the commitment of the organization, and its Democratic Attorney General leadership, to protecting reproductive health care for all people, not just a privileged few. Pennsylvania is one of 12 state Attorneys General seats on the map in 2020.

Shapiro will be facing anti-choice Republican and former council member for Allegheny County Heather Heidelbaugh in the general election. In February, Heidelbaugh was endorsed by the anti-choice Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation.
