Jan. 24--The Mississippi Hospital Association and Kansas City-based Caravan Health are collaborating to create the first statewide accountable care organization.
In a statement released Wednesday, the organizations announced they will form Myriad Health Alliance to provide coordinated, high quality care to Medicare patients in Mississippi.
Accountable care organizations, commonly called ACOs, are networks of doctors, hospitals and other health care providers working together to better coordinate care for patients and limit unnecessary spending. Incentives in the Affordable Care Act allow ACOs to share in savings if they provide efficient, quality care for a population of Medicare patients.
Caravan Health works with more than 250 health systems, 14,000 providers, and more than 1,000,000 patient lives to drive quality, financial benefits, and strong physician relationships in accountable care organizations.
Paul Gardner, who is director of Rural Health for MHS, will serve as executive director of the Myriad Health Alliance.
