McCollum Statement on CBO Score of House Republicans’ Health Care Bill

Congresswoman Betty McCollum (DFL-Minn.) released the following statement after the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimated that House Republicans' health care bill will cause 24 million more Americans to be uninsured by 2026 and lead insurance premiums to increase:

"Today's report confirms that Congressional Republicans and President Trump's health care bill is a mean-spirited and callous prescription for disaster that hurts working families, seniors, and the most vulnerable Americans.

"This Republican bill will shred the safety net that tens of millions of families rely on when a loved one is sick. It will cause insurance premiums to increase, hurting the economic security of millions of American families. It will cut nearly $900 billion from Medicaid, slashing the health care that low-income Americans, seniors, and people with disabilities rely on. And it will cause many women to lose access to comprehensive health care.

"I don't understand what motivates them, but it is clear that Congressional Republicans and President Trump don't care about the Americans who will be abandoned, broken, and bankrupt because of this bill. Health insurance and pharmaceutical executives will reap huge profits, while 24 million more Americans will be one illness or injury away from ruin.

"The Congressional Budget Office has given the American people a glimpse into the nightmare this Republican bill will cause. It is time for citizens to stop this disastrous bill before that nightmare becomes our reality."
