Levin Statement on CBO Score of GOP Health Care Bill

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Rep. Sander Levin (D-MI), Ranking Member of the Ways and Means Health Subcommittee today responded to analysis conducted by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) on the Republican legislation to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Rep. Levin was the Chair of the Ways and Means Committee when the ACA was signed into law:

"This report demonstrates that 24 million Americans would lose their health coverage by 2026 and the bill would substantially raise insurance premiums for older workers.

"Confirming other analyses, the CBO report shows in a clear, shocking way the Republican plan jeopardizes for the American people insurance vital for their health, and often their lives.

"Rushing to vote before the full consequences were understood, Republicans can't hide any longer from the reality of their plan. It unmasks President Trump's promise to provide insurance for everybody that will be much less expensive.

"All of this pain comes as the Republican bill would provide a $600 billion tax cut to corporations and wealthy individuals."
