Lowey Statement on Disaster Supplemental

Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D-NY), Ranking Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee, today issued the following statement on the $36.5 billion emergency supplemental Appropriations bill for disaster relief:

"The victims of recent disasters deserve certainty the federal government will stand by them in their time of need. This package provides critical public and individual disaster assistance, flood insurance aid, liquidity for Puerto Rico's government, and help for communities devastated by wildfires.

"More must be done to provide medium and long term investments that played a critical role in helping recover from other crippling storms like Katrina and Sandy, including rebuilding ports, coastlines, airports, and roads and bridges; repairing the electrical grid and other infrastructure; and ensuring the health care needs of American citizens are met.

"As time passes and new challenges emerge, Congress must remain focused on ensuring the full recovery of American communities devastated by natural disasters."
