Latest line: A good week for firefighters, bad one for PG&E
San Jose Mercury News (CA)
Dec. 1--Up -- Firefighters -- After a tense, and bone-dry autumn, the rains finally come, all but ending fire season across Northern California, with lots more showers in the forecast for the upcoming week.
Down -- PG&E -- Bankruptcy judge rejects beleaguered utility's challenge to inverse condemnation, the California law that holds utilities liable -- even if they didn't act negligently -- for fires that their power lines cause.
Sideways -- Apple -- Silicon Valley giant sees its smartphone sales fall 10.7% in the third quarter compared with last year as consumers move to cheaper phones. But Apple stock is still up more than 70% this year.
