Kuster Issues Statement on Outlined GOP Replacement for the Affordable Care Act

WASHINGTON, Feb. 17 -- Rep. Ann McLane Kuster, D-N.H., issued the following statement on the Republican proposal plan to replace the Affordable Care Act outlined by Speaker of the House Paul Ryan:
"From the beginning, I've signaled my willingness to work with Republicans and Democrats to improve on the Affordable Care Act and build a system that strengthens health care delivery for all Americans.
"However, any changes to the Affordable Care Act must expand access to care, increase affordability and improve quality of care. Unfortunately, reports I've seen of the Speaker's proposed plan would greatly reduce Medicaid expansion, hurting thousands of Granite Staters and jeopardizing our efforts to treat substance use disorders.
"It would lower standards for care creating a race to the bottom, shift costs onto patients, and threaten women's access to reproductive healthcare services. I hope that my colleagues on the other side of the aisle will reconsider provisions in this proposal that will hurt rather than help average Americans and instead come to the table and work in good faith to improve the Affordable Care Act for everyone."
