CHICAGO (AP) _ Kemper Corp. (KMPR) on Monday reported third-quarter net income of $47.7 million, after reporting a loss in the same period a year earlier.
The Chicago-based company said it had profit of 92 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, were 85 cents per share.
The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 28 cents per share.
The insurance holding company posted revenue of $690.3 million in the period.
Kemper shares have increased 37 percent since the beginning of the year. The stock has risen 62 percent in the last 12 months.
