Irish Minister Troy Meets CCPC on Enforcement Powers and Ongoing Public Liability Insurance Study

DUBLIN, Ireland, Aug. 13 -- The Ireland Department of Business, Enterprise and Innovation issued the following news on Aug. 12:
Minister for Trade Promotion, Digital and Companies Regulation, Robert Troy T.D. met this morning with representatives of the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) to be updated on such matters as the ongoing study into the public liability insurance market, increased powers for the CCPC by way of administrative sanctions and forthcoming consumer protection legislation.
Minister Troy highlighted the urgent need for publication of the study so that the recommendations can be implemented to improve consumer choice without delay.
On the matter of increased powers for the CCPC, Minister Troy noted the collaborative approach being taken to the preparation of the necessary legislation. The Minister noted that this must be a priority in the next Dail session and he will be discussing with Government colleagues in relation to same.
"This legislation, once enacted, will meet the Programme for Government commitment to give the CCPC & ComReg additional enforcement powers", he added.
