Insurance Jobs Up By 4,100 in December, Down Year-Over-Year

The insurance industry ended the year with 2,620,400 employed workers and an unemployment rate of 1.8 percent. "The last three months of 2016 saw the lowest unemployment rates of the year," said Rollins. "While the difference is not dramatic, unemployment averaged 1.6 percent for the final quarter of 2016 compared to the monthly average of 2.46 percent for the entire year."
Overall employment gains for 2016 were 37.9 percent lower than increases made the previous year. In 2015, the industry accumulated 70,300 insurance jobs from January to December with a monthly average gain of 5,850 jobs. In 2016, however, employed gains averaged 3,900 jobs per month, a 33 decrease over the previous year.
