Insurance company co-founded by ex-MLB player moving HQ to Hunt Valley

Heller Kowitz Insurance Advisors is moving its headquarters from Timonium to Hunt Valley this fall as the independent insurance brokerage expands through acquisitions and new business.

The 30-person company has signed a lease for 6,622 square feet at the Executive Plaza complex, where it plans to more than double its current office space, according to the company and Hill Management Services, the property’s owner.

Heller Kowitz is relocating from the Foxleigh Building in Timonium. The company said the larger space will accommodate its growing staff and anticipated expansion.

Partner and co-founder Brian Kowitz said the company is pursuing acquisitions, including established insurance books of business, while also seeking to hire additional employees and expand into new markets.

The firm expanded into the Atlanta area last year, building on business relationships Kowitz developed while playing professional baseball for the Atlanta Braves.

Heller Kowitz provides personal and commercial insurance and risk-management services, with a focus on employee benefits, life, disability and long-term care insurance, as well as claims and advocacy.

Kowitz said the company considered locations throughout Baltimore County before selecting Executive Plaza. The complex’s access to Interstate 83, parking and nearby retail and restaurants were among the factors in the decision, he said.

Danielle Bridge of Hill Management Services represented the landlord in the lease transaction. Clare Berrang of Singer Demarec Real Estate represented Heller Kowitz.
