Hoyer Statement on Maryland Health Insurance Rates
WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement after Maryland Insurance Administration Secretary Al Redmer announced final approved health insurance rates for 2017:
"I am deeply concerned by the increase in health insurance rates next year, and I will continue to work to ensure all Marylanders have access to affordable health coverage. Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, millions of Marylanders no longer have to be worried about being denied coverage because of a pre-existing condition; they can access preventive services at no cost to them; and seniors have saved millions on prescription drugs. Additionally, the uninsured rate has fallen in Maryland from 12.9% in 2013 to 7.5% in 2015. However, there are challenges we must address. I hope to meet with Secretary Redmer and other stakeholders to discuss possible approaches to stabilizing the marketplaces and keeping health insurance affordable going forward."
