Health care company continues contributing to Haverhill youth

HAVERHILL — A health insurance company has donated an additional $1,000 to the kids of Haverhill.

Mayor Melinda Barrett accepted a $1,000 gift card for sporting equipment from Wellpoint during a Haverhill City Council meeting on Tuesday. The funds will be used to support the city’s recreation department.

Caroline LeBlanc, a senior client manager at Wellpoint, presented the check at City Hall, emphasizing the company’s efforts to support all aspects of one’s well being.

“As part of our mission, we want to make sure that everybody’s whole health is being addressed,” said LeBlanc.

Wellpoint, formerly known as UniCare, is an insurance provider that serves state and municipal employees, including those working for the City of Haverhill. The company rebranded to better reflect its commitment to supporting its members’ overall health.

Recreation Director Ben Delaware was also present to accept the donation, which was made in partnership with Franklin Sports.

The two organizations have continuously shown support to youth athletic programs in the region. Last month, Wellpoint and Franklin Sports donated $1,000 in gift cards to Haverhill, Lawrence, and North Andover for each to purchase new sports equipment.

Barrett said the funds received on Tuesday will go to the city’s recreation department, a department that’s operation involves the upkeep of sports fields and courts, coordination of sports events, and youth athletic events.

With a location in Andover, Wellpoint is an insurance agency that serves state and municipal employees and their dependents, extending to those working for Haverhill. The provider was rebranded to properly reflect the company’s mission of supporting its members’ whole health.

Caroline Leblanc, a senior client manager at Wellpoint, presented the large check at Haverhill City Hall.

“As part of our mission, we want to make sure that everybody’s whole health is being addressed,” LeBlanc said.

Mayor Barrett said that the funds will help improve the city’s recreation department, maintaining sports fields and courts and coordinating youth athletic events.
