July 18--Tammy Johnson was shaking when she found her home on fire after she went to purchase a few items at a nearby Dollar General. She was out for about 15 minutes.
Johnson said she had just pulled in the driveway and thought maybe it wasn't her house; however, she was wrong. The 43-year-old said her one-bedroom house had four kittens, a mama cat and three dogs when it caught on fire. She doesn't know what she's going to do.
"I don't have insurance," she said. "I'll see if I can repair it."
At about 9:02 p.m. Friday, Odessa Fire/Rescue responded to a structure fire call at a home in 1210 N. Hancock Ave, Kevin Jackson, division captain for Odessa Fire/Rescue, said. Five units were there, including 15 people.
Upon arrival, Jackson said, his team noticed a large amount of fire coming in the north side of the home. No one was home when the fire erupted, he said, and the fire was easily extinguished.
The main structure of the building had minor damage, but the out building was severely damaged. When firefighters got on scene, there were pets inside, he said, but managed to get them out safely.
Jackson said the fire is still under investigation.
