Driver hurt in three-vehicle wreck

Sept. 15--One driver was injured in a three-vehicle collision at Ind. 19, south of C.R. 46 in Nappanee at 12:53 p.m. Monday, according to Elkhart County police.

A 2004 Buick LeSabre driven by Terry Lentz, 57, Nappanee, was stopped in traffic north on Ind. 19 when it was struck from behind by a 2009 Chevy Silverado driven by Ryne Garner, 26, Nappanee, according to police. The force caused Garner's vehicle to spin into the opposite lane and collided with the front end of a 2001 VW Passat driven by Vondee Wood, 38, Warsaw. Garner's vehicle then went off the west side of the road.

Police said Wood was transported to IU Health Goshen Hospital for a complaint of head and neck pain.

Garner was ticketed for traveling at an unsafe speed, police said.

Crash reports

--A 16-year-old and eight other people were injured in a two-vehicle crash at Ind. 19, south of C.R. 28 in Nappanee at 8:05 p.m. Sunday.

Elkhart County police reported Alyssa Stager, 16, Mishawaka, was driving a 1997 Pontiac Bonneville sedan east at the intersection of C.R. 28 and Ind. 19. Police reported Stager failed to yield the right of way and collided with a 2002 Dodge Ram passenger van driven by Jason Kaufman, 31, Mishawaka.

Stager complained of pain to her neck and head and her passenger in the Bonneville, Kennedy Mammolenti, 18, Mishawaka, complained of pain to her left hip and forehead. They were transported to Elkhart General Hospital.

Kaufman complained of pain to his chest, back and knees and was transported along with the six passengers to IU Health Goshen Hospital and Elkhart General Hospital.

Police said the passengers included Jeremiah Kaufman, 19, Bremen, who complained of pain to his neck and jaw; Mary Kramer, 85, Bremen, who complained of pain to her hips,knees and right arm; Samuel Kaufman, 68, Bremen, who complained of pain to his right elbow and forearm; Emery Kaufman, 62, Bremen, who complained of pain to the left side of her ribs; Omar Kauffman, 61, Etna Green, who complained of pain to his abdomen, left shoulder and neck; and Ruth Kauffman, 60, Etna Green, who complained of pain to both knees.

Stager was ticketed for failure to yield the right of way at an intersection. The six injured passengers in the van were ticketed for seat belt violations.

Thefts

--Carolina Sanchez, 723 W. Pike St., Goshen, reported someone took her son's bicycle at 7:02 p.m. Sunday, according to Goshen police.

--Jesse Sensenig, Goshen, reported to Goshen police his locked bicycle was stolen from outside the Goshen Brewing Company, 315 W. Washington St., Goshen, at 9 p.m. Sunday.

--Nicole Sheridan, Middlebury, told Elkhart County police someone took out a bank loan using her identity between Feb. 24 and Thursday.

--Sharon Slabach, Nappanee, reported to Elkhart County police Friday that at different times Sept. 1, a relative used her debit card to make unauthorized purchases through Amazon totaling $28.87.

--Brian Passmore, Elkhart, reported his mo-ped was stolen from the Keystone parking lot at 2530 Linden Drive in Goshen between noon and 3 p.m. Monday, according to Goshen police.

--Employees at Smith Lawn Care, Goshen, told Goshen police someone stole a leaf blower in the 1700 block of Manor Haus in Goshen sometime Monday.

--Joyce Paredes, 1118 W. Berkey Ave., Goshen, reported a theft Monday that occurred at noon Aug. 24, according to Goshen police.

--Tiffany Moore, 350 Stone Drive, Goshen, told Goshen police someone stole items from her unlocked vehicle at 10 p.m. Monday.

--Mary Lou Flowers, Goshen, reported her 2004 Buick was stolen from her residence in the 900 block of Indiana Avenue at 10 p.m. Monday. According to Goshen police, the vehicle was unlocked.

--Denise Flora, 69899 C.R. 7, Nappanee, reported a burglary between 6:20 and 9:18 p.m. Monday when someone entered her residence through an open window and stole a 60-inch flat screen TV, according to Elkhart County police.

--Cory Oswald, 65858 Barrens Drive, Goshen, told Elkhart County police someone stole his gold 2004 Honda Pilot out of his driveway between 10 p.m. Monday and 12:25 a.m. Tuesday. The vehicle was unlocked with the keys in the ignition.

Counterfeit money found

The manager at Taco Bell, 701 W. Pike St., Goshen, reported Monday that a patron paid for a transaction with a counterfeit $20 bill at 2 p.m. Friday, according to Goshen police.

Dog Bite

Christine Guth, 406 S. Seventh St., Goshen, reported to Goshen police of being bitten by a neighbor's dog at noon Sunday. Police said she was going to seek medical attention Monday.

Vandalism

--A Goshen parks employee reported damage to the pavilion at Rogers Park, 102 Chicago Ave., Goshen, that occurred between Sunday and Monday, according to Goshen police.

--Jill Kyle, 514 Silverwood Lane, Goshen, told Goshen police someone broke the front passenger window on her black 2014 Chevy Sonic LT between 4:30 a.m. and 1:20 p.m. Monday.

Firearm recovered

Staff at Peddler's Auction, 2909 Peddler's Village Road, Goshen, contacted Goshen police Monday to check on several firearms to be sold at an upcoming auction. One of the firearms was reported stolen in 2005 by Mundy Township Police Department in Michigan. A report was taken.

Arrests

--Raul Torres Rodarte, 53, 813 Colonial Manor, Goshen, was arrested by Bristol police on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated at 10:16 a.m. Saturday at C.R. 27 and C.R. 108 in Bristol. He was incarcerated at the Elkhart County Jail.

--Hugh Easterday, 43, 704 Walnut St., LaGrange, was arrested by LaGrange police for possession of stolen property Sunday and incarcerated at the LaGrange County jail.

--Castro Castro-Inchavrequi, 21, 505 1/2 Third St., Goshen, was arrested by Shipshewana police Saturday on a charge of driving while never having received a valid driver's license. He was booked into the county jail.

--Joseph Fuller, 335 Lakeland Drive, LaGrange, was arrested by LaGrange County police on charges of possession of marijuana and a minor in possession of alcohol Friday. He was transported to the LaGrange County jail.

--Seth Winquist, 22, 9085 W. 280 North, Shipshewana, was arrested by LaGrange County police Friday for operating a vehicle while intoxicated and incarcerated at the LaGrange County jail.

--Grace Rogers, 42, 108 Harrison St., Goshen, was arrested by Elkhart County police on a charge of domestic battery at 3:10 p.m. Friday in the 18000 block of U.S. 20 in Bristol. Rogers was incarcerated at the Elkhart County jail.

--Steven Salzwedel, 53, 1219 Chicago Ave. B, Goshen, was located at 19101 C.R. 20, Goshen, for a felony warrant by Elkhart County police at 2:29 a.m. Saturday. He was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, theft and escape/failure to return to lawful detention. He was transported to the Elkhart County jail.

--Kyle Hoekstra, 19, 209 E. Douglas St., Goshen, was stopped by Elkhart County police on C.R. 17, south of C.R. 26 in Goshen for a traffic violation at 10:15 p.m. Saturday. There was a passenger under 18 in the vehicle as well. Hoekstra was arrested on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia and booked into the county jail.

--Carl Michael Morgan, 42, 312 E. Washington St., Apt. C., Goshen, was arrested by Elkhart police on a charge of operating a vehicle as a habitual traffic violator for life at 623 E. Jackson Blvd., Elkhart, Sunday. He was transported to the Elkhart County Jail.

--Justin Richard Baker, 38, 14135 Kimberly Lane, Middlebury, was arrested by Middlebury police on a charge of driving while intoxicated Friday and booked into the county jail.

--Terry Wayne Yoder, 26, 243 Ridberry Ave., Goshen, was arrested by Elkhart County police on a charge of battery resulting in serious bodily harm Friday and transported to the Elkhart County Jail.

--Johnnie Mae Jones, 37, 903 Galen St., Goshen, was arrested on charges of driving with a suspended license Saturday by Elkhart police and booked into the county jail.

--Corey Scott Brown, 34, 1200 N. Main 306, Nappanee, was arrested by Nappanee police on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated Friday. Brown was incarcerated at the Elkhart County jail.

--Matthew Wayne Steele, 22, 902 E. Walnut St., Nappanee, was arrested on a charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor Friday by Nappanee police. He was transported to the Elkhart County jail.

--Jeromy Marsh, 21, 1020 Michigan St., Goshen, was arrested by Goshen police on charges of strangulation and domestic battery in the presence of a minor at 10 p.m. Monday. The victim received minor injuries that did not require medical treatment. Marsh was incarcerated at the Elkhart County Jail.

--Harley D. Barkdull, 30, 1009 Hidden Meadow Lane D., Middlebury, was driving a 1995 Nissan Pathfinder east on U.S. 20, east of Ind. 15 in Goshen and struck the rear end of a 2008 Dodge Ram 3500 driven by Leland D. Kinnamon, 48. The crash occurred at 12:26 p.m. Monday, according to Elkhart County police. Barkdull was allegedly operating a vehicle while intoxicated on prescription medication and another non-prescribed controlled substance. Police arrested Barkdull on charges of driving while intoxicated and driving with a suspended license and transported to the Elkhart County Jail. He was ticketed for no insurance and unsafe speed.

--Seth Schultz, 23, 11795 W. Ind. 120, Middlebury, was arrested by LaGrange County police on charges of maintaining a common nuisance, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, dealing methamphetamine and possession of a hypodermic needle. He was booked into the LaGrange County Jail Monday.

--Heather Bennett, 29, 6945 N. 675 West, Shipshewana, was arrested on charges of maintaining a common nuisance, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia by LaGrange County police Monday. She was incarcerated at the LaGrange County Jail.

--Cheryl Johnson, 32, 7680 N. 920 West, Shipshewana, was arrested by LaGrange County police on a charge of visiting a common nuisance Monday and booked into the county jail.

--Donald Reygaerd, 44, 980 Sharon Court, Middlebury, was arrested on a charge of invasion of privacy by LaGrange County police Monday. He was transported to the LaGrange County Jail.

--Phillip Ackerman, 45, 206 N. Detroit St., LaGrange, was arrested by LaGrange County police on a charge of failure to appear for a probation violation hearing for battery. He was booked into the county jail Monday.
