Democratic National Committee Issues Statement on Health Care Costs

Targeted News Service

WASHINGTON, Aug. 13 -- The Democratic National Committee issued the following statement by Regional Press Secretary Maddie McComb:

"Trump will say anything to distract and confuse Pennsylvania, but his record speaks for itself. He promised he would provide 'great health care,' yet relentlessly attacks protections for preexisting conditions.

"He told hardworking families 'jobs will come back under a Trump administration' yet his tax scam incentivizes companies to move offshore.

"As health care costs skyrocket and real wages decline, Pennsylvanians see Trump for who he is: he can't follow through on his promises because he's too busy dividing Americans on Twitter. Pennsylvania voters will show him the door next November."

Trump's record in Pennsylvania is one broken promise after another. See for yourself:

PROMISES ON HEALTH CARE

* Trump in Hershey, PA in November 2016: "You won't have to bother. You'll have great health care. Much less expense. Much lower price. You'll be paying a fraction of what you're paying and you're going to get really good stuff, I can tell you."

REALITY ON HEALTH CARE

* Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: "Ms. Altman said that, statewide, insurers offering Affordable Care Act plans next year have proposed an average rate increase of 4.9% for individual coverage and 9.6% for small group plans.... Specifically, she mentioned ongoing concern about low-cost, short-term non-ACA plans being offered which do not comply with the act's minimum coverage requirements. The worry, she said, is that those plans will draw younger, healthier enrollees from ACA plans, which would lead to a less-favorable ACA risk pool and higher rates for ACA plans."

PROMISES ON JOBS AND WAGES

* Trump in Newtown, PA in October 2016: "Your jobs will come back under a Trump administration. Your incomes will go up under a Trump administration. Your taxes will go way down under a Trump administration. Your companies won't be leaving Pennsylvania under a Trump administration."

REALITY ON JOBS AND WAGES

* Washington Post: "Trump Promised 'America First' Would Keep Jobs Here. But The Tax Plan Might Push Them Overseas."

* New York Times: "Trump's Push to Bring Back Jobs to U.S. Shows Limited Results"

* Bureau of Labor Statistics: "Real average hourly earnings for production and nonsupervisory employees decreased 0.2 percent from June to July, seasonally adjusted... Real average weekly earnings decreased 0.5 percent over the month due to the decrease of 0.2 percent in real average hourly earnings combined with a decrease of 0.3 percent in average weekly hours."

* CBS 2 Pittsburgh: "First Energy is closing its last coal-fired energy plant two years earlier than expected...President Trump previously said he wanted to keep coal-fired and nuclear power plants from closing."
