Crime Beat: Alcohol, speed suspected in I-25 crash

Nov. 20--A Pueblo man who sustained serious injuries in a one-vehicle crash is now facing a host of charges.

The accident occurred shortly after 1 a.m. Wednesday on Interstate 25, just north of Sixth Street. A witness told police that prior to the accident, the driver of the Mustang convertible, Matthew Baca, 35, was racing another vehicle. When contacted by police, the driver of the second vehicle, a family member of Baca, denied that racing occurred.

Due to the severity of his injuries, Baca was transported to a local hospital. He is facing charges of reckless driving, DUI, DUI per se, no insurance and driving without a valid license.

Fugitive arrest update

Andrew G. Fuentes, 40, of the 4000 block of Outlook Boulevard, arrested Monday on two failure to appear warrants with $150,000 total bail, is facing additional charges after a search warrant of the vehicle he was in led to the discovery of 215 grams of suspected methamphetamine and heroin.

Fuentes was booked on suspicion of the unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine and the unlawful sale of heroin.

Burglary

For the second time in less than a week, a burglar hit the New Beginnings Church in the 600 block of West Corona Avenue.

Stolen during the break-in was a safe valued at $300. Although a white 2016 Ford van valued at $33,000 also was taken from the property, it was later recovered, according to a Tuesday police report.

On Sunday, police learned that $1,000 worth of football cards went missing from the church.

Auto theft

On Tuesday, a sheriff's office deputy investigated the theft of a blue 1993 Chevy Corsica from the 900 block of North Main Street. The report did not list a monetary value of the car.

Arrests

Allen S. Beeman, 31, of the 1900 block of Constitution Road, was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of the unlawful possession of a controlled substance and first-degree aggravated motor vehicle theft. He also had a failure to appear warrant, and was booked into jail in lieu of $1,500 bail.

Tony J. Perez, 45, of the 1100 block of East Sixth Street, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of the unlawful possession of a controlled substance and second-degree aggravated motor vehicle theft. He also had failure to appear and contempt of court warrants, and was booked into jail in lieu of $17,000 total bail.

Kyle L. Sims, 35, of the 1100 block of East Sixth Street, was arrested Tuesday on a failure to appear warrant and booked into jail in lieu of $7,500 bail.

Michael T. Booth, 34, no specified address, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of theft over $5,000 and possession of burglary tools, and booked into jail with no bail set, pending a court appearance.

April M. Kittinger, 42, of the 0-100 block of Purdue Street, was arrested Tuesday on a no-bond warrant for forgery-check. She also had two failure to appear warrants.

Camille N. Fuentes, 33, of the 2400 block of West 14th Street, was arrested Tuesday on a no-bond warrant for identity theft. She also was placed on a court hold.

Heather D. Ormsbee, 32, of Kipling Drive in Pueblo West, was arrested Tuesday on a no-bond warrant for theft.

Scott R. Bannan, 38, of Leggette, Georgia, was arrested Tuesday on a no-bond fugitive of justice warrant.

Anthony R. Leyba, 32, of the 2000 block of East 13th Street, was arrested Tuesday on two fugitive of justice warrants, and a failure to appear warrant, and booked into jail in lieu of $9,500 total bail.

Urbano E. Delgado, 29, of Fort Garland, was arrested Tuesday on a no-bond parole hold.
