County proclaims March 6-11 Flood Safety Awareness Week
Santa Rosa Press Gazette (FL)
Santa Rosa County is encouraging residents to check their flood risk and buy flood insurance, if necessary, to protect their property from flood damage.
The Santa Rosa County Commission on Thursday proclaimed March 6-11 Flood Safety Awareness Week and is encouraging residents to learn about the dangers to persons and property associated with severe flooding.
By being aware of the dangers, taking recommended precautions and reviewing insurance policies to make sure they include coverage for flood damages, residents can reduce injuries, deaths and financial losses due to severe flooding.
Santa Rosa County has lost thousands of homes and businesses to flooding, causing millions of dollars in damages, according to the commission's proclamation. Standard homeowner's insurance policies often do not cover flood damage, making it important for those in flood-prone areas to purchase additional protection.
Hurricane Season begins June 1, when the likelihood of severe weather, including tropical storms and flooding, increases.
