Coronavirus: For the first time in U.S. history, all 50 states are under disaster declaration

Fifty states and the District of Columbia are all under a major disaster declaration for the first time in the U.S. history after President Donald J. Trump approved Wyoming’s declaration Saturday.

The president approved the first major disaster declaration for the COVID-19 pandemic in New York, on March 20.

“For the first time in history, there is a fully signed Presidential Disaster Declaration for all 50 States. We are winning and will win, the war on the Invisible Enemy!” tweeted the president on Sunday.

On Saturday, fatalities due to COVID-19 in America surpassed Italy, making the U.S. the nation with the highest number of deaths due to coronavirus-related illness.

There are now 550,016 confirmed cases on the U.S. and at least 21,686 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University.

At 188,694 cases as of Sunday, the state of New York alone reported more confirmed COVID-19 cases than any country in the world.

With the exception of American Samoa, all of the U.S. territories have been approved major disaster declarations; the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam and Puerto Rico all received approved major disaster declarations.

There have been 113,672 deaths worldwide and almost 2 million confirmed cases.
