July 29--KNOX COUNTY -- A Corbin man involved in an October 2016 fatal crash was indicted Friday by a Knox County grand jury.
Joseph Clark, 63, was named in a three-count indictment for charges that allegedly occurred Oct. 21, 2016.
The crash occurred along the Corbin Bypass after a Chevrolet Camaro, operated by Clark, allegedly misjudged clearance while attempting to pass another vehicle, causing a head-on collision with a Toyota Tacoma. Both Clark and the driver of the Tacoma, identified as Roger Daugherty, 40, of Williamsburg, both had to be extricated from their vehicles before being airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington for treatment of serious injuries.
Daugherty soon died from his injuries. Clark remained in the hospital for quite some time while recovering.
A witness at the scene of the crash stated that they saw Clark pass another vehicle before the collision, which allegedly occured in a no-passing zone. According to the indictment, Clark was also "driving at a high rate of speed" when the crash took place.
Count one of the indictment charges Clark with reckless homicide.Count two of the indictment charges Clark with operating a motor vehicle without an operator's license.
Count three of the indictment charges Clark with failure to maintain automobile insurance.
An indictment is a formal charge by a grand jury; it is not a conviction or an admission of guilt.
