Business Transitions: Frederick insurance company names new CEO

Frederick insurance company names new president, CEO

Nancy Newmister joined the Frederick Mutual Insurance Co. as president and chief executive officer on May 2. She was appointed by the company's board of directors, according to a news release.

As the CEO of Frederick Mutual Insurance Co., Newmister will oversee all business operations, including staff, profitability, agencies and industry partnerships, the release says.

Newmister has more than 30 years of experience in the property casualty insurance industry. She most recently served as senior vice president and chief underwriting officer for Berkley Mid-Atlantic Group.

Newmister graduated from Columbia Union College in 1997 with a bachelor's degree in business administration. She also graduated from the Wharton School of Business's Executive Development Program in 2000, according to the release.

A native of Maryland, Newmister and her husband will move to Frederick from their current home in Richmond.

Local executive receives SmartCEO award

Dr. Jeanne O'Connell of Sylvana Institute for Medical Aesthetics, a medical treatment and spa facility near Frederick, received an award from magazine publisher SmartCEO, according to a news release.

O'Connell, who serves as the medical director and CEO of Sylvana Institute, was awarded the BRAVA Award, which recognizes women in the greater Baltimore area for their achievements, the release says.

An awards ceremony will be held in July for all award winners. O'Connell will also be profiled in the summer issue of SmartCEO magazine, according to the release.
