CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) _ Brighthouse Financial Inc. (BHF) on Thursday reported second-quarter net income of $31 million, after reporting a loss in the same period a year earlier.
The Charlotte, North Carolina-based company said it had net income of 11 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, were $5.32 per share.
The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $3.12 per share.
The annuity and life insurance company posted revenue of $1.68 billion in the period. Its adjusted revenue was $2.39 billion.
Brighthouse Financial shares have climbed 22% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Thursday, shares hit $44.01, a rise of 48% in the last 12 months.
