Aug. 01--Just after midnight on Monday, Ocean Springs Police Officer Christopher Bryan responded to an accident in one of the eastbound lanes of the Biloxi Bay Bridge, where he found an unoccupied car on fire.
Witnesses said the driver ran from the 2005 Honda Accord into a wooded area near the bridge. Police set up a perimeter around the woods. About an hour later and more than a half mile from the bridge, officers found Marvin Bernard McMillian, 47, of Mobile, Ala. in woods off Porter Avenue.
McMillian was arrested on charges of driving without insurance, switched tag and leaving the scene of an accident, all misdemeanors that carry fines totaling $1,240. McMillian is being held in the Ocean Springs city jail. The Honda was not registered to McMillian, but police say he was identified from witness descriptions as the driver.
Anyone with any information is asked to call the Ocean Springs Police Department at 228-875-2211 or Crime Stoppers at 1-877-787-5898.
