BRIEF: Obamacare sign-ups in NYC climb 13%, data shows
New York Daily News, The (NY)
March 03--New York City saw a 13% jump in residents enrolling in health insurance plans under Obamacare during this year's open enrollment period, according to state data.
Between Nov. 1 and Jan. 31, 2,267,562 residents of the five boroughs signed up for health insurance through the state's exchange -- up from 2,004,349 in the same period the year before.
"Once again, New Yorkers are proving they won't fall prey to President Trump's harmful rhetoric," City Hall spokeswoman Freddi Goldstein said.
New York City's jump is in contrast to the national picture, where overall enrollments fell 3.7% in a year when the open enrollment period for the federal marketplace was cut in half to 45 days, advertising for the plans was slashed and Trump ripped the program and pledged to repeal it.
New York has its own exchange and residents had a 90-day window to sign up.
Officials said last month that statewide, New York's Obamacare program reached a new high, with more than 4.3 million people signing up for health care coverage.
