BRIEF: Man cited for DUI after crashing car into Evanston home: police
Chicago Tribune (IL)
Jan. 10--An Evanston man has been cited for DUI after police said he crashed his SUV into a home last week and two children inside narrowly escaped injury.
George Carter, 68, was cited for misdemeanor DUI, driving with an open container of alcohol, driving too fast for conditions, failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident and driving without insurance following the crash in the 1000 block of Dodge Avenue in Evanston at about 8:30 p.m. Thursday, police said.
Authorities said Carter was headed south on Dodge when he struck several parked vehicles. When he tried to turn the vehicle around, he accelerated and the SUV raced over the curb and median and crashed into a house, hitting a basement window, sending glass and debris flying into a room where two children were present, police said. One child was in a bed directly below the window and the other was nearby. Neither was injured.
Carter was taken to Evanston Hospital for what police described as an unrelated medical issue.
