BRIEF: High Point man faces new charge in fatal hit-and-run

May 31--HIGH POINT -- A High Point man has been served with a fifth charge in a fatal April wreck that killed a pedestrian.
Leon Lanear Knowles IV, 41, of 3928 Fountain Grove Drive in High Point, was charged Saturday with felony death by vehicle.
Knowles is accused of hitting Daniel Keith Rich, 53, of Thomasville, on April 21. Rich was given CPR at the scene and later died at the hospital.
Knowles was driving a Mercedes R320 about 9:50 p.m. and hit Rich at the intersection of Eastchester Drive and Johnson Street, according to police. Knowles drove off before police arrived.
He was previously charged with felony hit-and-run, driving while texting, driving while license is revoked and driving a vehicle without liability insurance.
According to the police report Knowles, who already had a $60,000 bail on the previous charges, was given an additional bail of $75,000.
Knowles is currently held in the Guilford County jail.
