BRIEF: BREAKING: Boynton police ID man, 29, killed by Brightline train
Palm Beach Post (FL)
June 22--BOYNTON BEACH -- City police say 29-year-old Luke Sherrill ran in front of a northbound Brightline train shortly before 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The Boca Raton man's death is believed to be a suicide, Boynton Beach police said.
The crash took place along the Florida East Coast Railway tracks between East Gateway Boulevard and Miner Road in the city's north end.
Sherrill's death marked the sixth time since January that a person has been struck and killed by a Brightline train, and was the fourth such death to occur this year in Boynton Beach.
Police have not faulted Brightline in any of the deaths. All have been ruled either accidental crashes or suicides, and several of the victims tested positive for various illegal drugs.
Brightline began passenger service South Florida in January. Its trains run nonstop between West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale and Miami and can reach speeds of 79 mph.
All Aboard Florida, which operates Brightline, is owned by an affiliate of Fortress Investment Group LLC, a global investment management firm. Fortress Investment Group LLC is contracted to manage and advise New Media Investments Inc., which owns GateHouse Media, the parent company of The Palm Beach Post.
