Black Hills Receiver claims progress on stabilizing facilities

Aberdeen American News (SD)

May 27--Black Hills Receiver is making progress on stabilizing operations of 19 nursing facilities in South Dakota, according to a news release.

The facilities were placed into receivership May 1. Receivership is a legal process in which a receiver is appointed by a judge to oversee business operations and finances.

Since then, Black Hills Receiver has been focused on ensuring residents and staff have the things they need, according to the release. That means the approximately 1,800 employees throughout the state have been paid on time and that insurance benefits, which were once ended, have been restored.

All sites remain focused on quality resident care, according to the release. Wanda Prince, who was named the president of Black Hills Receiver, said in the release that everyone is operating in the best interest of the residents and caring employees have made the process seamless.

The state of South Dakota helped the facilities gain access to working capital, Debbie Menzenberg, regional vice president for Black Hills Healthcare, said in the release. That's an entity of Golden Living, which owns the 18 nursing homes and one assisted-living center.

"These efforts allowed us to avoid any interruption of service to our food, medical supplies, utilities or pharmacy services," Menzenberg said in the release.

Skyline Health was operating the facilities when they went into receivership. It no longer operates in South Dakota.

Local facilities affected include the nursing homes in Groton, Ipswich, Milbank, Mobridge, Redfield and Watertown and an assisted-living center in Milbank.
