Democrat Joe Biden took the lead over President Donald Trump Friday morning in the Pennsylvania vote count, where votes that remain to be counted are likely to give Biden the state’s 20 electoral votes and the presidency.
Biden has 3,295,319 votes to Trump’s 3,289,725, meaning a razor-thin 49.5% to 49.4% lead.
The roughly 163,000 outstanding votes are mail-in ballots from Philadelphia and other largely Democratic areas that favor Biden by a wide margin. So, despite Trump’s allegations of fraud in Pennsylvania -- a claim rejected by Republican Sen. Pat Toomey and many other GOP leaders -- Biden could claim the White House within hours.
Lehigh and Northampton counties have both gone into Biden’s column as the agonizingly slow vote count has unfolded since Tuesday in Pennsylvania and other states, including Georgia, where Biden has taken a slim lead, and Arizona, where Trump has been cutting into Biden’s lead.
