AARP Issues Statement on Defeat of Health Care Bill

WASHINGTON, July 28 -- AARP issued the following statement by Executive Vice President Nancy LeaMond on the Senate's 'skinny' repeal health care bill:
"Today's vote is a victory for Americans age 50-plus. The 'skinny' bill the Senate defeated would have dramatically increased health care costs, caused millions to lose their health coverage, and destabilized the insurance market.
"We thank Senators Collins, McCain, and Murkowski, as well as Senate Democrats and Independents, who heard the voices of all those who called, emailed, rallied and wrote to object to this seriously flawed bill.
"We reiterate our willingness to work with Congress and this administration in a bipartisan way to strengthen our health care system, lower costs and improve care."
