Woman arrested on weapon, drug charges

March 03--Kentucky State Police Trooper Jared Boggs said a woman's attempt to avoid a traffic checkpoint has led to her arrest on weapon and drug charges on Friday.

Charity Greene, 40, of Lexington, was arrested by Boggs.

According to the citation, Greene pulled onto the shoulder on KY 38 in an attempt to avoid an authorized traffic stop. Boggs made contact with Greene and noticed her speech was extremely slurred.

That citation states Greene opened the center console to search for proof of insurance Boggs had requested, revealing what appeared to be a pistol. Boggs then had Greene exit the car in order to perform a sobriety test, which Greene failed. Greene was arrested, handcuffed and placed in the back of a KSP vehicle. Boggs then retrieved the pistol from Greene's vehicle, along with three full magazines. The handgun had a round in the chamber.

The citation further states when Boggs went to check on Greene in the back of the vehicle, she had removed her handcuffs and appeared to have attempted to escape the vehicle. Boggs removed Greene from the vehicle and handcuffed her. Boggs then transported Greene to Harlan ARH Hospital where she consented to a blood test. The results are still pending at this time.

The citation states Greene was transported to the Harlan County Detention Center. An unknown drug was found on Greene's person during a search. Greene stated the drug was Lortab.

Greene was charged with operating on a suspended or revoked operator's license, no operator's license, failure to wear a seat belt, no registration receipt, failure to produce insurance card, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, carrying a concealed weapon, third-degree escape, second-degree disorderly conduct, tampering with physical evidence, third-degree possession of a controlled substance and second degree promoting contraband.

Greene was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on a $7,500 full cash bond.

In other police news, Jordan Farmer, 23, of Ages, was arrested by KSP Trooper Josh Brashears on an indictment warrant on Sunday and charged with second-degree burglary, theft by unlawful taking under $500, second-degree criminal mischief and three counts of second-degree trafficking a controlled substance. Farmer was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on a $1,000 full cash bond.
