University of Scranton Names New Board Chair and Trustee Emeritus

SCRANTON, Pa., July 28 -- The University of Scranton issued the following news release:

Lawrence R. Lynch, a 1981 graduate of The University of Scranton, has been named chair of the Jesuit university's Board of Trustees, effective June, 2014. Christopher M. "Kip" Condron, who served four terms on the University's Board of Trustees including as chair from 2009 to 2014, was named Trustee Emeritus. Also, University Trustees Frank Pearn, class of 1983, and Teresa Schafer, class of 1981, have been named as co-vice chairs.

Lynch, a C.P.A., is an assurance partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP, serving in the financial services sector. He is a board member of the International Insurance Foundation and Friends of Saint Joseph'sPassionist Church of Paris. Lynch previously served as a trustee of Princeton Academy of the Sacred Heart, chairman of the board of trustees for the Marymount International School in Paris, as a board member of the French American Chamber of Commerce, Philadelphia chapter, and the Archdiocese of Philadelphia Catholic Social Services. He also served as an elected member of the University's Alumni Society.

Condron, a 1970 graduate of the University, is a director of the general partner of AllianceBernstein and chair of the Compensation Committee. He is also a member of its Corporate Governance and Executive Committees. Formerly, he served as president and chief executive officer of AXA Financial from May 2001 until his retirement from his positions at AXA in January 2011. Prior to retiring, he was also chairman of the board, chief executive officer and president of AXA Equitable and a member of the Management Committee of AXA.

Prior to joining AXA Financial, Condron served as both president and chief operating officer of Mellon Financial Corporation (Mellon), from 1999, and as chairman and chief executive officer of The Dreyfus Corporation, a subsidiary of Mellon, from 1995. In addition, Condron had been a member of the Board of Directors of Keefe Bruyette & Woods, Inc., a full service investment bank and broker-dealer, since January 2007. He also served as a director and member of The American Ireland Fund.

A native of Scranton, Condron is founding chair of the President's Business Council of The University of Scranton.

Pearn is the chief administrative officer of Global Compliance at J.P. Morgan Chase based in New York City. He is responsible for the effective management and oversight of the firm's operations in accordance with appropriate local, regional and global laws and regulations. Previously, Pearn, a C.P.A., served as the chief financial officer of the Global Banking division and Europe, Middle East and Africa region at J.P. Morgan. He began his career at Price Waterhouse in New York.

At the University, Pearn was also a member of the executive committee of the University's successful $125 million Pride, Passion, Promise Capital Campaign.

Schafer is the COO and CFO of Wealthcare Capital Management, an Investment Advisory firm and a technology provider of goals based wealth management software, located in Virginia. Schafer previously worked for Credit Suisse, serving as global COO for Equity Finance and Derivatives in London, and later Managing Director/COO for the Americas Equities Division in New York. Schafer has also worked for Bankers Trust, Price Waterhouse and Salomon Brothers in New York and Tokyo.
