Towers Watson Appoints Edward Root to North American Retirement Business

Proquest LLC

Towers Watson, a global professional services company, announced that it has hired Edward Root as a senior pension risk transfer expert.

According to a release, Root will be based in Tower Watson's Stamford, CT office and will add his perspective and skill to the North America retirement business which advises plan sponsors on pension plan risk management strategies.

"We are very pleased to add someone with Ed's knowledge and experience in pension risk transfers to our retirement team," said Bill Gulliver, North America leader of Retirement at Towers Watson. "He brings a successful track record as well as a deep understanding of the marketplace and the needs of plan sponsors and annuity providers. All of us look forward to his many contributions."

Prior to joining Towers Watson, Root was vice president and head of U.S. pensions at MetLife, where he had general management responsibility for its multibillion-dollar pension risk transfer annuities business. Previously, he was a senior vice president and actuary at Transamerica. Root began his professional career as a pension actuary at Towers Perrin.

"Ed's addition is great news and underscores our ongoing commitment to bring market-leading capabilities to meet our clients' evolving needs," said Matt Herrmann, leader of Towers Watson's Retirement Risk Management group. "He is joining us at a time when many plan sponsors are evaluating different pension de- risking strategies in an effort to reduce the size and risk of their pension plans."

Towers Watson is a global professional services company that helps organizations improve performance through effective people, risk and financial management.
