The First Ever Website on Nonqualified Deferred Compensation for Executives and Key Employees

The website myNQDC.com, launched in October 2010, is the only online educational resource devoted exclusively to nonqualified deferred compensation (NQDC) plans. With tax rates likely to rise in the future, the tax-deferral advantages of NQDC will make these plans increasingly popular compared to the limits of 401(k) plans. With clear writing and independent, unbiased expertise, myNQDC.com provides education about the financial planning, taxation, risk, and legal issues surrounding nonqualified deferred compensation and encourages participants to fully understand these topics and maximize the value of their plans. myNQDC.com offers individual and group memberships, along with licensing its educational content for other websites and print materials.

Brookline, MA (PRWEB) October 28, 2010 -- myStockPlan.com, the publisher of the hugely successful and award-winning website myStockOptions.com on equity compensation, has launched a new site: myNQDC.com, the only online educational resource devoted exclusively to nonqualified deferred compensation (NQDC).

The goal of myNQDC.com is to provide educational content and tools for nonqualified deferred compensation plan participants, their advisors and attorneys, plan providers and administrators, and companies with NQDC plans. With clear writing and independent, unbiased expertise, myNQDC provides education about the financial planning, taxation, risk, and legal issues surrounding nonqualified deferred compensation and encourages participants to fully understand these topics and maximize the value of their plans. With tax rates likely to rise in the future, the tax-deferral advantages of NQDC will make these plans increasingly popular. myNQDC.com offers individual and group memberships, along with licensing its educational content for other websites and print materials.

The articles, FAQs, glossary, podcasts, and interactive quizzes at myNQDC.com draw upon the extensive knowledge of experts to help answer both basic and complex questions. All articles by outside contributors undergo an extensive process of internal review and editing before publication. The advisory board of myNQDC.com includes influential leading experts in nonqualified deferred compensation and the general field of executive benefits.

What Is Nonqualified Deferred Compensation?

In brief, nonqualified deferred compensation is a contractual arrangement between a company and a participant in its NQDC plan, usually an executive or other key employee. Based on the participant's elections, the NQDC plan defers a portion of current compensation, and the related taxes, to a payout date in the future, when the income is distributed and taxes are paid. In addition to gaining the potential benefits of tax deferral, the income may achieve tax-free growth through investments during the deferral period. In this sense, nonqualified deferred compensation is similar to qualified deferred compensation such as 401(k) plans, but with the crucial difference that NQDC participants can defer much more money and perhaps withdraw it penalty-free while still working. However, equally crucial is that amounts deferred under NQDC plans cannot be guaranteed, are not formally held or funded by the company, and are always subject to risks. Violations of the rules for NQDC plans, such as those under Internal Revenue Code Section 409A, result in immediate taxation and penalties.

For many corporate executives and other eligible key employees, nonqualified deferred compensation plans are a major and extremely valuable part of compensation. For companies, NQDC plans, whether elective types or supplemental executive retirement plans (SERPs), can be a powerful financial tool to recruit, retain, and reward executives and key employees, a priority for all businesses.

NQDC Education Vital But Often Neglected

Despite the powerful potential of nonqualified deferred compensation, its procedures, rules, taxation, and financial planning are complex and often poorly understood by NQDC participants. Education and communication are vital for ensuring that NQDC does its job to motivate and retain highly valued executives, directors, and key employees. The more education companies provide, the more their NQDC participants will want to become involved with NQDC plans, fully understand how they work, and appreciate their value. This translates into enhanced motivation and loyalty in the company's most valued performers.

myNQDC.com is a unique independent resource for providing trustworthy NQDC education in a way that is effective, convenient, and easy to understand. It covers the full range of topics, from core concepts to tax reporting and advanced financial-planning strategies. In addition to offering individual memberships for full access to myNQDC.com, the site licenses its educational content to companies and NQDC plan providers for their websites.

NQDC Experts Praise myNQDC.com As A Unique Resource

The launch of myNQDC.com is creating a buzz in the world of executive benefits. "myNQDC.com is the only site that I am aware of where the HR or finance professional can get unbiased in-depth information on nonqualified benefit planning," said James M. Clary, President of MullinTBG, one of the largest providers of executive benefits consulting, administration, and advisory services. "With the cutback in budgets and the need to save wherever possible, the site offers an alternative to expensive consultants or advisors when quick answers are needed, or for doing preliminary research on a topic." Mr. Clary also praises the site's "unbiased, professional knowledge base, which will help with the complications and intricacies of nonqualified benefit planning."

Clark Consulting, another leading NQDC provider, also actively supported the development of the website, and several of its experts provided articles that appear throughout myNQDC.com. "Clark Consulting has provided proactive service and unmatched expertise to help corporations and banks achieve their key financial goals, manage benefit liabilities, and enhance shareholder value through advanced financial products and tailored executive retirement programs such as nonqualified deferred compensation plans," said article contributor Michael Goldstein, Senior Vice President and National Director Strategic Development at <org>Clark Consulting. "We're honored and excited to have had the opportunity to contribute to another great resource for users to obtain a better understanding of the complex issues involved in selecting and managing a nonqualified deferred compensation plan."

The enthusiasm is shared by Andrew Eldredge, Vice President of Nonqualified Administration at The Newport Group, a leading retirement services and asset management firm specializing in the creative design, funding, and administration of qualified and nonqualified retirement plans. "At Newport, we feel that myNQDC.com will fill a vital information gap in the executive benefits marketplace, much as myStockOptions.com did for stock option-related content and information," he said. "We believe myNQDC.com offers the right blend of basic and advanced topics that will help users navigate through the often complex world of 409A and nonqualified deferred compensation plans. The editorial staff at myNQDC.com has succeeded in building a comprehensive resource library that includes everything from an extensive glossary and FAQs to podcasts and articles by industry experts. This will benefit not only participants and sponsors, but also industry experts and service providers."

Corporate Licensing Available

All the content on myNQDC.com is ideally suited for licensing by plan providers, administration firms, consultants, and companies with nonqualified deferred compensation plans. A customized version of the website's award-winning content can be seamlessly woven into companies' HR, benefits, and/or compensation portals. Accessible through any internet browser, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, licensed content from myNQDC.com lets executives answer their own questions about their NQDC whenever they need to learn more--saving time for administrative staff and costs for the company.
