Teenage bowler rolls 300, 800 at Rapids

Niagara Gazette, Niagara Falls, N.Y.
By Niagara Gazette, Niagara Falls, N.Y.
McClatchy-Tribune Information Services

March 14--Two local bowlers, one in the senior ranks and the other a teenager, rolled 300 games and 800 series in recent competition at Niagara Falls bowling centers.

Jerry Cassero, Jr. rolled an 857 series -- which included games of 278, 300 and 279 -- in the Felicetti Concrete 3-Man League at Bowl-O-Drome. The record falls just 11 pins short of the all-time 868 rolled by Cody Rosa and Tom Brady.

Over at Rapids Bowling Center, meanwhile, 14-year-old Nick Nawrocki rolled a 300 game as part of his 800 series in the Junior & Teen League last Saturday.

"He's done really well. Last year he was averaging 150 and is now up to a 192 average," said Nick Delgrolice, Nawrocki's coach. "That's a huge accomplishment in one year. Most bowlers improve their averages about 12 to 20 pins."

Nawrocki, who has been bowling for six years according to Delgrolice, just finished his second season bowling for LewPort High School as well, averaging 186 for the Lancers.

Cassero wasn't the only one to roll an 800-plus series in the Felicetti Concrete league. Dave Wakeman and Bob Yamanaco both finished their rounds with 815 totals.

In other competition, Dave Roeser and Joe Sardina both rolled 300 games in the Zajac Funeral Home league at Bowl-O-Drome. Tom Shaffer rolled a perfect game in the American Legion #1142 League at Rapids Bowling Center.

----

Editor's Note -- Due to the large volume of scores submitted in the past week, we will post additional league results in tomorrow's edition.
