Paint Twp.[Derived headline] [Daily Record, The (Wooster, OH)]

Proquest LLC

Paint Twp.

(elect two)

Chuck R. Gatti (R)

16816 Dover Road

Mount Eaton

Age: 62.

Occupation, qualifications: "I am a 35-year Paint Township resident. I have been a business owner and in business management for more than 30 years. This has given me the opportunity to make business decisions, manage finances and work with the public.

"I have been working as a township trustee for more than 111/2 years. My experience of running heavy equipment has been helpful, as I work with our road superintendent maintaining our roads and responding to emergencies such as summer and winter storms."

Response: "Increased traffic on township roads, along with budget cuts making it harder to maintain roads. Since I am retired I can help the road superintendent on the roads whenever help is needed."

Bradley A. Herman

16523 Konita Drive

Navarre

Age: 34.

Occupation, qualifications: Current positions: principal, Beacon Hill Community School; vice president, Mount Eaton Business Association; trustee/secretary, Fredericksburg East Side Cemetery Association; co-president, Mount Eaton Elementary PTO. Past positions: council president, Village of Apple Creek; vice chairman, Apple Creek/East Union Joint Economic Development District; government teacher, Waynedale High School.

Response: "Paint Township, as well as Mount Eaton, is a great community. I take great pride in raising my family in this wonderful, close-knit community. While I do not see any major issues in our area, I believe improvements can always be made. I am running for this office because I feel a sense of civic responsibility to give back to my community for all the wonderful support they have shown to my family. I have served in many applicable leadership roles (see qualifications). The knowledge and experience I have gained will be invaluable in providing effective leadership for Paint Township. Having been an elected official before, I can appreciate the needs and concerns of each individual resident. I believe my skill set and experience will be the best solution for Paint Township."

Karl F. Stroh (R)

11879 Harrison Road

Navarre

Age: 76.

Occupation, qualifications: Paint Township trustee, Wayne County. "Over the years as trustee I wrote over $650,000 in grants for new fire truck, new fire station, new Paint Township Community Park on Winesburg Road, received grant with the County Engineer for repaving West Lebanon Road from U.S. Route 250 to West Lebanon, and grant to help pay for a five-bay, new township garage."

Response: "I have been a township trustee for 28 years and some of the most pressing issues are improving roads and ditches. Also we have been trying to keep the fire department equipment and gear up to code."

Plain Twp.

(elect two)

Craig A. Garrett (R)

5152 McKee Road

Wooster

Age: 53.

Occupation, qualifications: "I have been employed with the Wayne County commissioners in the maintenance department since 1995. I have been a Plain Township trustee since 2006, served on the Wayne County Fair Board since 1988, was a 30-year 4-H adviser while serving on numerous 4-H committees, was a full-time farmer until 1995 and I am a current Farm Bureau member where I served on the board and numerous committees in the 1980s."

Response: "The budget is challenging, as it is in all government entities. I feel that Plain Township is still providing a great service with the budget provided. As a current trustee, I believe we have good communication with fire personnel and their departments. I also feel that we provide quality road maintenance with the funds provided, even though the costs continue to rise every year. We are continuing to save money by applying for available funds for the township, which will be beneficial to the citizens that reside within Plain Township."

David E. McMillen (R)

5077 Snoddy Road

Shreve

Age: 32.

Occupation, qualifications: "I am employed by the Ashland-West Holmes JVS as a building trades instructor. Prior to my current position, I worked for 10 years with Mathys Construction Inc. of Wooster. I have a bachelor's degree from Bluffton University in organizational management and sociology, and I'm working toward a master of education degree at The Ohio State University. I am an active member and trustee of the Shreve United Methodist Church and have spent time coaching and volunteering in the community."

Response: "The greatest challenge that Plain Township (or any other township) has is to uphold the needs and services of its voters, while making responsible fiscal decisions. Maintaining fiscal responsibility for our township by providing quality services, while working within the guidelines of our budget, is my top priority. In talking with the homeowners of Plain Township, valid concerns have been expressed (ranging from park issues to township roadways). As one of the voices of this township, I promise to always listen and work collectively with the other officials and employees to solve the issues facing Plain Township."

Rodney A. Scheibe (R)

3167 Maple Grove Road

Wooster

Age: 53.

Occupation, qualifications: Co-owner and manager of Ro-La-Sue Dairy Farms LLC. Currently serving on the Wayne County Dairy Service Unit (six years).

As an owner and manager of Ro-La-Sue Dairy Farms LLC, I make decisions on a daily basis along with proven experience in managing employees, budgets and the robotic milkers, recently installed to improve operations.

Lifetime resident of Plain Township; married 29 years to Addie.

Response: "I believe our biggest issue in Plain Township is maintaining the roadways, followed by fire and rescue. With increasing costs (road materials, equipment, wages, fire protections) budgeting is the township's greatest challenge. Trustees must be attentive to the concerns of the community, while being frugal with taxpayers' money. I believe that issues need to be resolved in a timely fashion."

Salt Creek Twp.

(elect two)

Tom Gallagher (R)

8433 Maurer Road

Apple Creek

Age: 59.

Occupation, qualifications: Retired teacher from Wooster City Schools.

"Since I'm retired, I would be available most of the time for the public to get in touch with me to voice their concerns."

Response: "I don't see any pressing problems currently. I would like to see the same quality of excellence maintained in our township. Sometimes a fresh perspective can be a good thing."

Mark Lemon (R)

10798 Holmesville Road

Fredericksburg

Age: 40.

Occupation, qualifications: Owner/operator of Lem's Pizza in Fredericksburg, Salt Creek Township trustee for the last 12 years; previous 15-year member of Fredericksburg Volunteer Fire Department; graduate of Baldwin-Wallace College.

Response: "The primary responsibility of a township trustee in our area is to insure the quality, maintenance, safety and accessibility in inclement weather of the township roadways. In Salt Creek Township, we have done an excellent job in recent years in fulfilling this responsibility. Being good stewards of the taxpayers' dollars and continually trying to find ways to do more with less is also a very important part of this position.

"A trustee also needs to be accessible to the community. The residents know where they can find me, and on numerous occasions I have spoken with individuals at my business about township issues. I welcome and encourage this interaction.

"I am proud to be part of this great community. If re-elected, I plan to use the experiences I have gained as a township trustee and a small business owner to keep Salt Creek Township heading in the right direction."

Donald E. Rhamy

7766 Cutter Road

Fredericksburg

Age: 76.

Occupation, qualifications: Presently farming at our residence in Salt Creek Township; have been a Salt Creek trustee since 1994; past Fredericksburg and Waynedale High School principal; Fredericksburg Volunteer Fire Department 34 years; elder and usher at Fredericksburg Presbyterian Church; past Farm Bureau and Ruritan member. While serving as trustee, all Salt Creek roads were paved and a new township building was constructed. The township has no debt and all buildings and equipment are paid for. Serving as president of Salt Creek Township trustees.

Response: "The most pressing problem involves reduction of funding from the State of Ohio. At the present time, Salt Creek is able to maintain roads and keep roads open during snow storms and other emergencies. Local problems are solved as quickly as possible and to the extent the law allows. Salt Creek Township is a great place to live."
