Northern Trust Named Global Custodian for WPA Asia Investment Mandate
LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Northern Trust (Nasdaq: NTRS) announced today that it has been selected to provide global custody and investment accounting services for Western Provident Association (WPA), a private health insurer based in Somerset, UK. Northern Trust will service WPA’s Asian equities mandate.
“We were looking for a global custodian that understood our requirements around investing in overseas markets and the team and expertise to work with our investment manager in Hong Kong,” said John Pugh, Finance Director at WPA. “It is important for us to have a dedicated relationship manager in London with local expertise but also knowing that our assets are being looked after in Asia. We feel Northern Trust will deliver on these two fronts,” Pugh added.
“We are delighted to have been selected by WPA, one of the UK’s longest-established health insurers,” said Penelope Biggs, managing director of Northern Trust’s Institutional Investor Group in Europe, Middle East and Africa. “We remain focused and committed to delivering increasingly sophisticated back and middle office asset servicing solutions to our clients within this market. Clients such as WPA will benefit from our expert client service and industry leading insurance reporting capabilities via Northern Trust’s Passport. Through our global operating model, WPA and its investment manager will have access to the same consistent data across all locations and all time zones - something our global clients truly value,” added Biggs.
Northern Trust provides the full range of asset servicing and asset management solutions, including global custody, investment operations outsourcing, and sub-advisory services to a variety of insurance clients across the globe. Northern Trust’s insurance client base and expertise encompass life, general, pensions, protection and indemnity, captives and the specialist Lloyd’s insurance market in the UK.
Since January 2009, Northern Trust has added more than US$95 billion in new insurance assets. With the addition of 16 new mandates in this segment over this period, Northern Trust now services in excess of 230 insurance relationships worldwide, with new business interest coming from across various sectors of the market.
